The Samundiri dynasty of Kozhikode (Calicut) also gifted the present “Sri Guruvayoorappan Temple” for the exclusive use and management of the tamil speaking Brahmin community, and also to propagate vedic culture, over 400 years ago. The Manjapra Sri Guruvayoorappan temple is built as per Kerala Sastras, as in the original Guruvayur Temple – with Shadadara Prathishta. Hence the Kerala Guruvayur style Utsavas and Poojas are observed.
After over 200 years, the temple was completely renovated and Naveekarana Mahakumbabishekam was performed in June 2001. A double storied sanctum sanctorum with copper plate roofing and separate enclosures for the deities was constructed. The original idols of Sri Ganapathy and Sri Guruvayoorappan (the main deity) were retained but the idol of Lord Shiva was made new and as addition a new idol of Goddess Vishnu Durga was also made. Naga Prathishta was made at the outer prakaram.Manjapra was then visited by nearby villages to study the renovated Sri Guruvayoorappan Temple, as a model for their generation. Mr.Sama, a special envoy of Kanchi Kamakoti Peeta visited the temple to bless the devotees on the Mahakumbabishekam day and was inspired to say that “You deserve the praise of every elder person” with words “Janani, Janmabhoomischa Swargadadi Areyasy”
